Free-To-Air

Posted on November 7, 2005

Pirate SkullI can’t believe how easy it is to get Free-To-Air TV (or in other words almost free commercial TV). You need to buy FTA satellite receiver that cost ~200$ and cheap antenna. Then you just upload small program over a null-modem to get almost every channel including PPVs.

With Bell and Videotron you have to pay 30 to 40$ every month and you only get a fraction of available channels. (well you also can watch Canadian TV, but I guess it depends on the satellite)

Strange eh? If it is so easy decrypt satellite signal why Satellite TV uses such an easy to break encryption? There are quite a lot of simple encryption algorithms that can be easily implemented for slow CPU’s of the receiver and still provide adequate security for decades.

P.S Now back to COMP335 assignment;-)
