Game idea

Posted on February 13, 2005

I thought today that EA make new soccer game every year, and it woud be cool if someone made a soccer game where players were robots (kind like Terminator I skeletons). You would be able to upgarde them and damage other players robots. Something like that…

Another joke from math book.

Posted on February 12, 2005

I’m sitting in the library, surrounded by discrete math books. And some of them are actually good! (Compared to the one we use in Concordia). So here is one joke from the chapter on algorithms (Discrete Math 2n ed by Richard Johnsonbaugh).
Adlai Stevenson’s recipe for carp:

  1. Take 1-to 2-pound carp and allow it to swim in clear water for 24 hours.
  2. Scale and fillet the carp.
  3. Rub fillet with butter and season with salt and paper.
  4. Place on board and bake in moderate oven for 20 minutes.
  5. Throw away carp and eat board.

Compare it to the lame attempt to make it fun in my book (Discrete mathematics with Applications 3rd ed by Susanna S. Epp).
“Begin at the beginning… and go on till you come to the end: then stop”
– Lewis Carroll, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, 1865

P.S
If you make people think they’re thinking, they’ll love you; but if you really make them think they’ll hate you. link

About algorithm.

Posted on February 12, 2005

The term algorithm like its predesessor “algorism, was unknown to Euclid. In fact this term did not enter the vocabulary of most people until the late 1950s when the computer revolution began to make its impact on society. The word comes from the name of famous Islamic textbook writer Abu Ja’far Mohammed ibn Mûsâ al-Khowârizmî (c. 825). The last part of his name al-Khowârizmî, which is translated as “a man from the town of Khowârizm,” gave rise to the term algorithm.

Burn burner burn! (in hell)

Posted on February 10, 2005

I don’t know why this happening but I already wasted 7 or 8 CD-Rs burning Solaris 10 isos… When I try to install it, at some random point (sometimes when it starts to boot, sometimes in the middle of install or at the last 99%) I see a lot of fatal errors. Also when I set validate CD when I burn there is a small chance that I have errors also… I don’t know whom to blame, not Sun that’s for sure maybe laptop burner, maybe old CD-Rs or maybe it’s that old 2X CD-ROM in my Sun Ultra 60…

Most probably it’s cosmic pays + bad luck ;-)

P.S here is the simple script to amuse yourself while installing Solaris:

open console and enter

while true

do

dmesg

sleep 10

done
