Every time I open a Software Engineering book in the first paragraph or less often in the first chapter author explains reason to write this book and justifies the existance of Software Engineering profession based on the Standish Group reports.
“There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics” Benjamin Disraeli.
Standish Group reports are based on statistics from 100 companies and 500 projects.

World Wide Object Web
Posted on February 20, 2006
Wouldn’t it be interesting/useful if every object (electronic or not) had a unique identifier? Maybe even had embedded in itself information about every other object it relates to. So for example you would copy web page id, in your history page, then 5 years later even if the document was moved several times, you would enter that id information into search engine and it would search on your computer and on a network and locate it for you? Or for example if you enter your bike id, it would give you a graph of all parts, photo of the bike, etc… And each part would have a link to parts catalogue of the manufacturer? For example every location on earth has a unique id (longitude/altitude/height), you would enter that information and get a list of images (I’’m sure that new cameras will record GPS location) of that place and a list of any historic events that happened in this area.
Hell, if you embed RFID tag in the bike you can get a list of images you made on your biking trips!

The simplest form of a CASE tool is the software tool, a product that assists in jut one aspect of the production of software. CASE tools that help the developer during the earlier stages of the software development process, namely requirement, specification, design are sometimes termed upper CASE or front-end tools, whereas those that assist with implementation, integration, and maintenance are called lower CASE.
So cute! Upper CASE and lower CASE ;-) Hahahahahaha.
If you don’t like my the humour, maybe this will cheer you:

Made in Israel
Posted on February 13, 2006
Concordia Muslim club sure have good sponsors. Right now they are showing graves of Arabs killed by Israel, nicely decorated, and stuff. The title of this exposition is “Made in Israel”. Bad Israel, bad. But please educate me about all good things made in Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Afganistan… International terrorism and suicide bombers come to mind, not world peace and progress.
Small update.
Right now two german engineers are held as hostages in Iraq.

They may be killed in two days. What Concordia muslim club is doing about it?

Books

What are my favorite books? Probably a boring pile of well known books. What I’m reading right now is probably more interesting:
Think of a number : ideas, concepts, and problems which challenge the mind and baffle the experts
Introduction to higher mathematics for the general reader
User interface requirements engineering : a scenario-based framework
Use cases : requirements in context
Master And Margarita
Database systems : the complete book for my DB course.

Homo studentus-sapiens, don’t be stupid, always review your final exams.
I just saw my final on automata and I found that I got 0/7 for answer with one really small error (forgot to add loop) and 6/7 for totally correct answer. Unfortunately I also found that I lost ~7 points because I can’t read questions :-(
Did not change my letter grade but it’s nice to know that I did not study for nothing.
